Summary
In a post-combustion-engine era, does the growl of a combustion engine evoke nostalgia, like the clopping of a horses hooves once did, or does it become something similar to the distant rocket launch horn in the night, evoking longing feelings for travel? In this world where unlimited travel exists, will the charred landscapes of rocket pads be strewn with empty astronaut food packets and discarded ripstop flight suits, or will robotic garbage-eating jellyfish malfunction and strew back the garbage? Future residents of this rocket-infused world will likely call up the same nostalgia as old Esso stations, just as Route 66 does for people traveling. If the future inhabitants of Mars are fascinated by how retro the husks of early human settlements look, will groups of teenagers explore abandoned asteroid mining colonies? As things age and become the past, there will be so many other questions to be answered. I have completed a poetic labor with seven ninety-nine poems, writing each one in response to each issue of the comic *Rom: Spaceknight*, which heavily influences 1980s superhero cinema. This collection, titled *Choosing Sides*, will eventually be published as a speculative poetry chapbook for a Kickstarter. I previously set myself a morning pages task to read *Rom: Spaceknight* for seventy-nine days on different issues, reading one issue for a specific day each to write about it, then published each poem online once written.
