- Summary
- The 21st-century Tagonggong Network is a rural ISP launched by community activists of Sangihe, North Sulawesi. Founded to bring Internet connectivity to isolated mountainous islands, this project focuses on preparing the community for dignified livelihoods through sustainable digital economies. In September 2022, the group successfully constructed two solar-powered relay towers, primarily by vocational school students and teachers. These installations successfully brought connectivity to the island of Kalama, which is 210 kilometers from the main city of Manado. As a direct result of these efforts, 46 households across the island transitioned into the digital economy. The project demonstrates how community-led technology initiatives can transform remote regions into hubs of economic growth and modern connectivity.
