Summary
In a digital world, facts and opinions are in tension that undermines social cohesion. How can society restore communication despite differing opinions? This aspect is reinforced by social media and AI, which often lead to inappropriate or manipulated opinions. The question of how people collaborate in discussions when their perspectives conflict is becoming increasingly important, especially among younger generations who use the Internet.

Gender-specific discourse significantly influences the form and scope of conflicts. While one gender can call the other a 'tougher' or a 'fighter', this means that conflicts cannot be exaggerated through communication, but rather lead to insinuations or tension. In times of war and displacement, freedom of expression is critically examined to ensure that the peace between the two partners is not broken. The discussion about how we selectively perceive different truths and opinions and distinguish between scientific truth and popular false truth is becoming more widespread in times of fake news, deepfakes and AI.

These topics form the basis for a Freedom of Expression Week in 2026. They note that we must change our perception systems in order to successfully move forward in a democratic society. We would like to thank the Duden-Verlag for the use of “Disputes Unconditionally” by Michel Friedman. But what happens when people spread demonstrably false information that they only market based on their own opinions? The answer requires clear social boundaries in order to maintain cohesion and democracy.
